How long does it take to issue ?

Time required to issue a passport

Since 12 November 2003, a new and faster process has been used for passports issued by the municipal and provincial  administrations. Passports are issued within five working days once the passport application has been collected.

The time required to issue a passport therefore depends on the number of collections, of which there are a minimum of two per week. Your municipality can provide more precise details on the frequency of collections.

A new emergency procedure has also been introduced: for an additional fee, passports may be issued by the municipality or province on the day after collection of the application by the private firm, provided that the application is faxed by the municipality or province to the production centre by 3 p.m.

Collection of passports by the holder

In principle, applicants must collect their passport in person from the municipal or provincial administration.

If an applicant is unable to collect their passport in person, another individual may do so upon presentation of written authorisation from the applicant.
