  • Departure of employee Embassy of Pakistan in Brussels not connected to search notice

    In the last week, the Belgian media published articles about the son of an employee of the Embassy of Pakistan in Brussels, who was visible on a search notice of November 15th of the Brussels police. The FPS Foreign Affairs confirms that the term of the employee at the Embassy of Pakistan in Brussels, limited to four years, was already finished in July 2014. As a consequence, he was expected to leave the country several months ago. The departure of the Embassy employee, therefore, has no connection with the publication of the search warrant.

    "As a ten months old baby I institute legal proceedings against Belgium", those were the terms that Paula Marckx addressed in 1974 to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. Marckx, a deliberately single mother, considered it unacceptable not to be not recognized as the legitimate mother of her daughter Alexandra. The Strasbourg Court agreed: discrimination between "natural children" and "legitimate children" disappeared from the Belgian codes and from those of many other European countries. Afghanistan will be added to the jurisdiction of the Belgian Embassy in Islamabad (Pakistan). The competences of the consulate in Toronto (Canada) will be transferred to the Consulate General of Belgium in Montreal.
