Special meeting of the European Council

The European Council of June 27 appointed Jean-Claude Juncker, former Prime Minister of Luxembourg, as candidate for President of the European Commission. The European Parliament will vote on July 15 on his appointment. The European Council will meet the next day to discuss the appointments of other top EU positions such as EU Commissioners and the successor of Mr Van Rompuy as EU President. The Heads of State and Government will also discuss the future priorities of the Union. Ukraine might also be discussed.

Belgian positions are officially adopted at coordinations organised by the Belgian Foreign Ministry, in particular by the department of "European Affairs and Coordination" (DGE). Federal and Regional governments are also present.
