Didier Reynders pleased with commission of Louis Michel

date: 19 March 2013

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders is pleased with the decision by the Secretary-General of La Francophonie, Abdou Diouf, to entrust Louis Michel with the task of following up on the Libreville agreements for the restoration of peace and safety in the Central African Republic.

Didier Reynders is convinced that Louis Michel will use his experience to promote discussions and the role of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (International Organisation of La Francophonie) within the region. The agreements made have helped to halt the fighting, but recent flare-ups have exposed the vulnerability of the situation. The humanitarian and social consequences of this instability require a swift and permanent solution.
