Didier Reynders supports Special Envoy Mary Robinson

date: 19 March 2013

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders is delighted that Mary Robinson has been appointed as Special Envoy of United Nations Secretary-General to the Great Lakes region.

The Minister hopes that Mrs Robinson will provide new impetus to the implementation of the framework agreement, for example via a dialogue between the countries in the region, in order to achieve a long-term solution to the crisis.

Didier Reynders underlines the fact that Mrs Robinson can count on Belgium’s support in carrying out her mission.

The Minister has also been informed that war criminal Bosco Ntaganda has handed himself in to the American Embassy in Kigali. He hopes that an agreement will swiftly be reached regarding his transfer to the International Criminal Court in The Hague, thereby making it clear that impunity is out of the question.
