Didier Reynders thanks Turkey for allowing military equipment from Afghanistan to be repatriated across its territory

date: 30 October 2012

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders greatly appreciates the decision of the Turkish government to allow the repatriation of Belgian military equipment from Afghanistan across Turkish territory. The repatriation is to take place via the port of Trabzon in the north east of the country on the Black Sea. The authorisation, announced today, is granted for the entire repatriation operation, which is to begin in mid-November.
Didier Reynders was able to raise the issue with his Turkish counterpart, Ahmet Davutoğlu, during talks on 18 October in the margins of the Economic Princely Mission to Turkey. This decision bears witness to the outstanding bilateral relations between Belgium and Turkey, as were already demonstrated during this important economic mission.
