  • Didier Reynders congratulates Donald Tusk and Federica Mogherini

    The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders warmly congratulates Donald Tusk on his election as President of the European Council and Federica Mogherini on her appointment as High Representative of the EU's Foreign and Security Policy. The Minister wishes them every success in their duties for the benefit of Member States and all European citizens. Didier Reynders assures the High Representative that she can count on the staunch support of the Belgian diplomacy in her leadership of the European External Action Service.

  • Basic Generic Training - BGT - Call for applications

    The EU has several tools at its disposal for the implementation of its Foreign Policy (known as the Common Foreign and Security Policy or PESC). The Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP) is one of these tools. Since 2003 the EU conducts in the CSDP-framework, several civilian crisis management missions in various unstable crisis area’s worldwide. At present, 11 (1) civilian EU-missions are ongoing in which approximately 50 Belgian experts are deployed.

    Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders congratulates Ukraine on the 23rd anniversary of its independence. The minister considers a free, democratic and independent Ukraine essential for the stability of the Euro-Atlantic area. Belgium supports the efforts of the international community, and particularly those of the European Union. Minister Reynders hopes that the meeting in Minsk this week will be a first step towards constructive dialogue that will put an end to the uncontrollable escalation of violence and the suffering of the population.

  • Didier Reynders concerned about situation in northern Iraq

    Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders is still deeply worried about the situation in northern Iraq. Indeed, the fate of the civilian population concerns us all. A greater involvement of the international community is therefore essential, both from a humanitarian and a security point of view. The Minister therefore supports all initiatives to protect civilians, especially from the UN Security Council or the UN Human Rights Council.

  • Didier Reynders on Russian sanctions against EU countries

    Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders has taken note of the decision made by the Russian government to ban the import of some foods from the EU, the US, Canada, Norway and Australia. At the moment the complete and detailed list of the targeted foods is not yet known. gedetailleerde lijst van de geviseerde voedingsproducten nog niet bekend. De precieze economische impact kan nog niet met zekerheid worden bepaald. De FOD Buitenlandse Zaken, de FOD Economie en de bevoegde gewestelijke instanties bestuderen dit.
