As a founding member of the United Nations, Belgium has always approached it as the effective tool for multilateralism in order to respond to the increasing number of challenges. It is a great privilege for me to serve my country and the international community along this line.   • Belgium releases humanitarian emergency aid for Ukraine

    30 Jan Press release

    Deputy Prime Minister Alexander De Croo releases two million euros in humanitarian emergency aid for Ukraine. In Ukraine, 1.5 million people have fled the ongoing conflict in the eastern part of the country. The emergency aid will allow the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to assist the affected population by providing them with provisional shelter, food, medicines and water.

  • Minister Reynders welcomes start of FARDC military operations against FDLR

    29 Jan Press release

    Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders welcomes the announcement, today, of the start of the military operations by the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC), with the support of MONUSCO, against the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR). These operations are necessary to neutralize this armed group, and to force it to disarm, as the FDLR refused to demobilize completely and unconditionally within the 6 month delay that was granted to it by the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL) and the South African Development Community (SADC).

  • Belgian Envoys meet in Brussels

    All Belgian ambassadors, consuls-general and permanent representatives to international organizations will meet in Brussels next week to discuss Belgian diplomacy. This will take place during the “Diplomatic Days” from 2 to 6 February 2015. The heads of diplomatic missions will develop their contacts with political, business and academic circles as well as with civil society in Belgium.

    Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Development Cooperation Alexander De Croo will release 20 million euros in 2015 for core funding of 4 multilateral organizations active in humanitarian aid: the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Office of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
