As a founding member of the United Nations, Belgium has always approached it as the effective tool for multilateralism in order to respond to the increasing number of challenges. It is a great privilege for me to serve my country and the international community along this line.     United Nations Day, 24 October 2014 Since 1947, the United Nations Day commemorates the entry into force in 1945 of the Charter of the United Nations, the founding document of the international organisation. Belgium was one of the first countries to sign the Charter and remains a staunch defender of the principles of multilateralism.
