Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and European Affairs Didier Reynders stresses the importance of the international Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), which was approved by an overwhelming majority at the UN General Assembly on 2 April. Last week, a number of countries made approval by consensus impossible. Approval of the Arms Trade Treaty gives a boost to international diplomacy. It is the first time in years that such a sensitive theme has achieved global agreement.

Didier Reynders on the UN Security Council’s Resolution 2098 strengthening the MONUSCO in the DRC
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders is pleased that the Security Council has approved the resolution enabling an “intervention brigade” as part of the peace forces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO). The mission of this brigade is to neutralise armed groups, and by so doing, combat the threat that these groups pose to the civilian population and make it possible to restore the rule of law in eastern DRC.
