    1138 Bangladeshi workers were found dead between loads of garments destined for the European and American markets after the six-floor Rana Plaza complex in the industrial outskirts of Dhaka collapsed on 24 April 2013.   • Didier Reynders pleased with Belgium’s faster transposition of EU directives

    Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs Didier Reynders is pleased with the faster transposition of EU directives into Belgian legislation. From May till November 2014, there was a delay in the transposition of 0.7% of the directives, while the European Commission authorizes a delay of maximum 1%. Belgium has made serious efforts and equals its best result obtained in 2010. At that time our country held the Presidency of the European Union.

    As part of its chairmanship of the Council of Europe, Belgium is organizing a high-level conference entitled "Tolerance is stronger than hatred". It will be held in Brussels on 8 May. The 47 Member States of the Council of Europe are invited to this event in order to affirm their position and continue their efforts to promote tolerance and fight against hate speech. Indeed, according to Belgium, living together must be rethought and tolerance must be taught and propagated through education, social relations and the media.

    From 12 to 19 April 2015, the 13th Crime Congress will be held in Doha as part of the International Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) of the United Nations Office against Drugs and Crime (UNODC). This conference is a forum bringing together government and non-government representatives and experts who will discuss crime prevention and international cooperation in criminal matters. This year, the main underlying theme of the conference will be the relationship between the rule of law and the post-2015 development goals, with a particular emphasis on crime prevention.
