Belgium and the United Arab Emirates are both engaged in the international coalition against the terrorist group ISIL.

  • Belgium signs the Council of Europe Convention against Trafficking in Human Organs

    Belgium, currently Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, actively participated in the negotiations leading to the Council of Europe Convention against Trafficking in Human Organs. Today, on the occasion of the opening for signature in Santiago de Compostella in Spain, our country is one of the first signatories of the Convention. The Convention shall enter into force three months after the date on which five signatories, including at least three member states of the Council of Europe, ratified the Convention.

  • Didier Reynders welcomes the agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC on demining

    The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders welcomes the agreement of 7 March between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) on a joint pilot demining project. This is a decisive step in the Colombian peace process. Belgium chairs the 14th Assembly of States Parties to the Ottawa Convention banning anti-personnel mines.
