The European Council of the 26th and 27th of June
Today, Heads of State and of Government are gathering in Ypres to commemorate at the Menin Gate the centenary of the events that lead to the First World War. On the 27th of June , the European Council will meet as usual in Brussels. On the agenda: the appointment of a candidate for the Commission’s presidency, the strategic agenda for the next five years, the areas of freedom, security and justice; growth, competitiveness and employment; the climate-energy package and the accession of Lithuania to the Euro zone. The situation in Ukraine may also be addressed. Belgian positions are officially set at coordination meetings organized by the FPS Foreign Affairs and in particular its Directorate General "European Affairs and Coordination" (DGE). There, the concerned administrations and cabinets, at the federal and regional levels, defend their points of view.
