Didier Reynders concerned by the sentencing of journalists in Egypt

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Didier Reynders has learned with concern of the prison sentences of several journalists, including the Dutch journalist Rena Netjes, also correspondent for a major Belgian media outlet in Cairo.

Following the EU Foreign Affairs Council today during which this issue was addressed, the Egyptian Ambassador in Brussels is invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Belgium will express its concern and ask for explanations on the sentences as well as on media freedom in Egypt in general.

Minister Reynders recalls the commitment of Belgium to the right to a fair trial and to the respect of media freedom.
