Belgium in 3 subsidiary organs of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations

The Economic and Social Council of the United Nations re-elected Belgium as member of the Commission on the Status of Women. During this session, the Economic and Social Council has also appointed Professor Olivier De Schutter as member of the Committee on Economic and Social Rights. Last year, another Belgian Professor, Marc Bossuyt, was appointed as member of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. There will be two Belgians into two different UN treaty bodies relevant to Human rights. Earlier in April, Belgium was designated at the Presidency of the 48th session of the Commission on Population and Development of the United Nations.
Those 3 recent elections clearly recognize Belgium’s role in the promotion and protection of Human rights within the UN.
