Didier Reynders concerned about the expansion of settlements on the West Bank, including East Jerusalem
Like High Representative Catherine Ashton, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders is gravely concerned about the recent announcement of the approval of some 2,300 new homes in the Israeli settlements.
Minister Reynders is particularly concerned because this announcement comes at a critical moment: it could directly threaten the continuation of ongoing negotiations and could hypothetically threaten any chance of reaching an agreement on the definitive status. The Minister reiterates that the construction of settlements is illegal under international law and each time again hinders the outlook for a two-State solution.
Didier Renders calls upon the Israeli authorities to reconsider their decision and to refrain from actions that undermine the trust between the two parties.
