Didier Reynders calls for reconciliation among Egyptians
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders is very concerned about the persistent and pervasive violence that continues to plague Egypt. Such violence is clearly a threat to the country’s socio-economic and political stability. The Minister deplores the fact that numerous people have been killed over the past few days and calls on all parties to exercise restraint.
Egyptians must opt for inclusive dialogue and reconciliation, the only means by which the entire population will have the benefit of peace, security, prosperity and stability. This is the message put forward by the whole of the European Union, as was once again repeated by High Representative Catherine Ashton during her visit last week. Minister Reynders actively promoted this point of view during his August visit to Cairo, and inclusive dialogue and reconciliation are now more urgent than ever.
For that matter, the Minister again stated that terrorism can only be combatted effectively if due regard is given to human rights.
