Didier Reynders on the seizure of Belgian racing pigeons in China

date: 28 September 2013

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders declares that the Belgian Embassy in Beijing is carrying out mediation efforts to secure the release of approximately 1,200 pigeons that have been seized in China following a legal dispute about customs duties. The Chinese authorities have already released approximately 400 pigeons after payment of a deposit by the parties involved. Minister Reynders points out that these mediation efforts do not in any way constitute an interference in the legal procedures that have been launched in China and in Belgium.
