Belgian Bullhead (Rundskop) nominated for Oscar
The film Bullhead was nominated for the Foreign-Language Academy Award. This is quite an achievement for the first full-feature film by Director Michaël R. Roskam (1972) from Sint-Truiden. The film is a crime drama about farmers and gangsters who get involved with the hormone mafia.
Bullheadhas been a huge success since its release on 2 February 2011. Over 460,000 people have seen the film in Belgium, making it the most attended film of 2011. It was also well received abroad. It received awards at film festivals in Canada, France, Croatia, the United States and Spain.
This is the sixth time that a Belgian film has been nominated for an Oscar. The last time it was Everybody’s Famous! (Iedereen beroemd!)´ (2000) by Dominique Deruddere.
The Awards will be handed out on 26 February. Bullhead (Rundskop) will be competing against A Seperation from Iran, Monsieur Lazhar from Canada, Footloose from Israël, and the Polish entry, In Darkness.
