  • 150 years of friendship between Belgium and Japan - Results of the logo competition

    In 2016, Japan and Belgium will celebrate 150 years of diplomatic relations and friendship. In the run-up to this year of friendship, a public competition was held to select the official anniversary logo. The jury evaluated 187 entries. The winning design is the work of Ms. Ayaka YASHI, a 21 year-old student living in Osaka. The official logo of the anniversary will be used in communication regarding all the activities associated to the anniversary in the course of 2016.

    The Team of International Envoys for the Great Lakes region express their deep concern about recent violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). They further express their deepest condolences to the families of the victims. The Envoys call on the Government to exercise restraint, to maintain open political space and allow for peaceful expression of opinion. The Envoys condemn any use of force against peaceful, unarmed demonstrators and arbitrary arrests. The Envoys further note that all citizens, including demonstrators and their leaders, have a responsibility to pursue political objectives by non-violent means in conformity with relevant national laws.

  • B-FAST mission stays one month longer in Guinea

    The B-FAST Coordination Council last week decided to prolong the mission of the B-FAST team in Guinea with one month. On 18 January, a second team traveled to Guinea to take over from the first team, that is there since 20 December and that will return back to Belgium in a few days. The team operates in good logistical and security conditions, and has an excellent cooperation with the local authorities.
