Didier Reynders’ reaction to the announcement of new settlements on the West Bank
Like High Representative Catherine Ashton, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders regrets the decision by the Israeli authorities to construct new houses in the settlements on the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
Minister Reynders reiterates that the settlements are illegal under international law and constitute a barrier to peace. He is concerned because this announcement jeopardizes the efforts made to reach a two-State solution. He calls upon the Israeli authorities to reconsider their decision and urges them to renounce unilateral measures that would be detrimental to the resumption of peace negotiations.
