Didier Reynders pleased with Ukraine agreement

date: 18 April 2014

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders is pleased with the agreement that was reached yesterday in Geneva between the EU, Ukraine, the US and Russia.

Now the parties must implement their commitments. This means further de-escalation and the disarming of various armed groups. In this way the upcoming elections on 25 May can be prepared. According to Minister Reynders, national dialogue and a review of the constitution are also important elements for guaranteeing the stability in Ukraine.

The Minister pledges the support of Belgium within the EU and the OSCE for implementing this agreement. All stakeholders and parties inside as well as outside Ukraine should use their influence to implement this agreement. According to Minister Reynders, rebellion, external influence, armed violence and illegal occupation of government buildings must be brought to an end immediately.
