Didier Reynders offers DR Congo the help of BeFast following the collapse of a building in Kinshasa

date: 14 October 2013

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders, in his capacity as Chairman of the Coordination Council of the disaster intervention team BeFast, has decided to offer help to the Government of the DR Congo following the collapse of a hotel building in Kinshasa this morning. There are still victims trapped under the rubble. The possibility of offering help is currently being investigated.

As soon as Didier Reynders has confirmation that BeFast can make a useful contribution, the team will fly to Kinshasa. It is possible that this will take place as soon as this evening.

The team will only be deployed once Belgium has received a formal request for assistance from the Government of the DR Congo.
