Didier Reynders signs the protocol of intention for the organisation of Europalia Turkey in 2015
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders today signed the protocol of intention for the organisation of Europalia Turkey in 2015 at the Egmont Palace, together with Turkish Minister for EU Affairs Egemen Bağış.
On 23 May 2013, the Europalia Board of Directors decided to select Turkey to be the host country for the 2015-2016 festival. After Russia, China, Brazil and India, Turkey will now, starting in the autumn of 2015, be put in the limelight for several months in various Belgian cities and municipalities.
Europalia also has a number of anniversaries to celebrate in 2015. For example, 2015 marks the 25th occasion that Europalia is presenting the festival to the European public. It will also be celebrating its 45th anniversary. Throughout the years, the objective of Europalia has been to introduce the cultures of European countries, and more recently Asian countries, to a broader public.
Turkey is a candidate for EU accession and is a country in which many different cultures meet. This makes it the perfect choice for celebrating these anniversaries. The exhibition is an opportunity to strengthen the relationship with the Turkish community in Belgium and in other countries as well as to give the Belgian and international public the chance to discover the cultural richness of this country.
