Didier Reynders on the elections in Mali

date: 13 August 2013

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders congratulates Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta on being elected President of Mali. The Minister is also pleased with the very positive attitude of Soumaïla Cissé, who immediately acknowledged his opponent’s victory.

The Malian population, in voting calmly and in good order, has shown that it has high hopes for the stabilisation and democratisation process and for a return of the country to constitutional order. The new President will have the difficult task of taking action to meet these expectations quickly and of working to achieve reconciliation within Mali. To these ends, he can count on the support of his international partners, including Belgium.
