Didier Reynders pleased with the transfer of Bosco Ntaganda to the International Criminal Court

date: 22 March 2013

Didier Reynders is pleased with the transfer of Bosco Ntaganda to the International Criminal Court. The minister also appreciates the constructive role played by Rwanda, the USA and the Netherlands. Their cooperation made it possible for this transfer to take place in the best possible circumstances.

This surrender has a high symbolic value. It reinforces the fight against impunity, without which no sustained stabilisation would be possible. The transfer also gives hope to the victims and to the population, who are central to the efforts to restore stability in the African Great Lakes region.

The minister hopes that these efforts will continue so that the continuing violence in the east of the DRC can come to a speedy end and the commitments made under the Addis Ababa agreement concerning stability, peace and development in the region can once again be implemented.
