    As part of the festivities of July 21, the Egmont Palace opens its doors for an exhibition “Text-île”. The four historic tapestries at the Egmont Palace, which show four continents, are the starting point for this exhibition. The exhibition explores the aspects of migration, such as colonization, refugees, the hope of a better life, the search for identity, heritage and cultural exchanges, all through facilities, videos and sculptures from five contemporary artists. The works come from Pascale Marthine Tayou, Hans Op de Beeck, Berlinde De Bruyckere, El Anatsui and Ali Kazma.

  • Special meeting of the European Council

    The European Council of June 27 appointed Jean-Claude Juncker, former Prime Minister of Luxembourg, as candidate for President of the European Commission. The European Parliament will vote on July 15 on his appointment. The European Council will meet the next day to discuss the appointments of other top EU positions such as EU Commissioners and the successor of Mr Van Rompuy as EU President. The Heads of State and Government will also discuss the future priorities of the Union. Ukraine might also be discussed.
